United arab emirates

The United Arab Emirates is a Middle Eastern country comprising of seven emirates. These emirates are Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. Its is situated in the Persian Gulf and shares borders with Oman and Saudi Arabia. It is a highly prosperous country owing to rich oil reserves and has a relatively high Human Development Index as compared to some other countries in Asia. Trucial States or Trucial Oman, as they were previously known, collectively with other states in the Middle East, had granted the UK control of their defense and foreign affairs in the 19th centuries treaties. Thus these were effectively ruled by the UK till 1971, when six of the states Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Fujairah, Sharjah, Dubai, and Umm-al- Quwain merged to join UAE and declared independence on 15th August 1971. Ra's al Khaimah joined the UAE in 1972. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE, and it has a federal constitutional monarchy. UAE is represented in most countries by the UAE embassy. The flag of the UAE contains red, green, white and black, which symbolizes Arab unity.
UAE- Maps: On a world map, the UAE lies in the Middle East between Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf, and shares 410 km border with Oman and 457 km with Saudi Arabia. Its geographic coordinates are 24 00 N and 54 00 E. It is a desert area where there are frequent sand and dust storms. The major cities in the UAE are Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Jabal Ali, Ras al-Khaimah. Jebel Ali is a port town located 35 km southwest of Dubai city.
Dubai: Dubai is one of the seven emirates and it has the largest population amongst these, and the second largest area after Abu Dhabi. Though oil is found in Dubai, it is not in such large quantities as other emirates, with revenue from oil only accounting to about 6% of its GDP. Large part of its revenue comes from tourism, service industry, and the Jebel Ali Free Zone, which is a zone created near the Jebel Ali port, where corporations enjoy tax holidays and incentives. This, supported by worlds largest man made harbor with 67 berths, it has attracted some of the largest foreign direct investments in the region resulting in huge employment opportunities. This is going to be aided by the Dubai World Central International Airport under construction near Jebel Ali, which is going to be the world’s fourth largest airport upon completion, and one of the biggest cargo hubs in the region.
Dubai Internet City is a IT Park developed as a Free Economic Zone. Many world giants from the computer industry have set up facilities here including, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, Cisco, HP, Nokia, Siemens, among others. Some of the best universities in the world operate in Dubai including, American University of Dubai, SP Jain Center of Management, XLRI Dubai campus, in collaboration with Al Abbas Institute of Technology, Al Ghurair University, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Middlesex University, Dubai, European University College Brussels, Dubai, Mahatma Gandhi University, among others.
Tourism-Airline and Hotel: Dubai is strongly promoting itself as a tourist destination along with a business destination. For this reason, huge numbers of temporary accommodations, ranging from hostels to five and seven star hotels have been set up. Burj Al-Arab, a luxury hotel created on an artificial island, is one of the most famous landmarks in Dubai.
Emirates, is a national airline, wholly owned by the Government of Dubai. Established in 1985, with flights to Mumbai and Delhi, today it is ranked among one of the top ten airlines in the world. It connects the Middle Eastern region to the whole world, and has its hub as Dubai International Airport.
