Saudi Arabia physical map: The Saudi Arabia physical map depicts that this kingdom occupies about 80% of the Arabian Peninsula. It shares its boundaries with United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen.

The Saudi Arabia physical map also reveals that three water bodies and seven countries surrounded it. In the west, Red Sea and the gulf of Aquaba make a coastal boundary of nearly 1800 kilometers, which extends itself to Yemen and trails the mountain ridge all the way to Najran.

To the north lie Jordan, Kuwait and Iraq. Northern boundary stretches for 1,400 kms, starting in the west at the gulf of Aquaba and ending at Ras al Khafji, which lies on the Persian Gulf.

The maritime claim of Saudi Arabia includes a twelve nautical mile territorial boundary the length of its coasts. In addition, they also lay claim to many small islands, plus some seabed and subsoil beyond their coastal territorial limit claim.

Saudi Arabia and Jeddah: Jeddah occupies a prominent position on the Saudi Arabia map, and is located on the coast of the Red Sea. The etymology of Jeddah gives two explanations of its name, one being ‘seashore’, as it is located along the Red Sea, and the other is ‘grandmother’. Jeddah is the Arabic word for grandmother. According to popular belief, the tomb of Eve is situated in Jeddah, which is now sealed due to religious reasons.

Jeddah is one of the major urban centers in western Saudi Arabia, and the second largest city after the capital, Riyadh. Jeddah is an important city on the Saudi Arabia map because it is the principal gateway to Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims, and also because it is the commercial capital of Saudi Arabia, and the wealthiest city in the Middle East and Western Asia.

Saudi Arabian government: The central institution of Saudi Arabia is essentially an absolute monarchy, where the king is not only the head of the state, but also the head of the government. The basic law of Saudi Arabia, which was approved in 1992, declares that the monarchy is to be governed by the sons and grandsons of King Abd Al Aziz Al Saud, and the Quran is the foundation of the country, which is ruled based on the Islamic law, sharia.

Thus, no national political parties as such are present. The king’s powers are confined to sharia and other important Saudi traditions. He must retain the consent of the religious leaders Saudi royal family, and all the important elements of the Saudi society. The Kingdom follows the ideology of Wahhabism.

The Saudi Arabia government has a council consisting of a prime minister, two deputy prime ministers, 20 ministers, two ministers of state, as well as heads of major autonomous organizations and a small number of advisers.
