Oklahoma aquarium...

Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks: The tourism market of Oklahoma is being revolutionized due to the city of Jenks, which is also proudly recognized as its antique capital. The Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks, was built in 2002, and is located on the banks of the Arkansas River on a 66-acre campus. It was opened with the expectation that the aquarium will bring nearly 500,000 visitors annually to the Tulsa metropolitan area. The fish and freshwater environments native to Oklahoma, and the ever-growing array of exotic marine life, are on display in Oklahoma Aquarium. The Shark Adventure is the showcase attraction here. It consists of a 500,000-gallon tank with a tunnel, where visitors can walk through the shark environment. A 12-feet high and 20-feet wide, all-acrylic observation dome has been designed, near the middle of the tunnel. It gives a 360-degree unobstructed view of the entire tank, especially to observe special creatures like the bull shark and lemon shark. The permanent exhibition of over 20,000 fishing gear in the Karl and Beverly White National Fishing Tackle Museum, is another unique feature of the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks.

Oklahoma city Aquarium Association: This is a general aquarium hobbyist group. The Oklahoma City Aquarium Association (OKC) maintains brackish, fresh and marine aquariums. Although it has ‘Oklahoma’ in the name, its members are from all over the state, and some from other states as well. The OKC chapter’s regular meetings are held on every third Sunday of each month, at the Oklahoma City Zoo education building, from 2 - 4 p.m. Every third meeting is held in a member’s home in the evening, so that those who work even on Saturdays can attend it. The meetings generally include an expert speaker or demonstration, an auction and a discussion. The auctions have a lot of fish and plants at low prices, so it is worth checking out. Some members of Oklahoma City Aquarium Association are dedicated aquatic gardeners. They bring in their trimmings regularly, and trading is done between meetings. These meetings are a great way to meet fellow hobbyists, and visitors are also welcome to these meetings. One of the main benefits for being a part of this association is, that membership card-carrying members receive discounts at various fish stores in the region.
