The small state of Delaware was accidentally discovered by Henry Hudson in 1609, when he sailed into the Delaware Bay, while in search for the Far East. Delaware is named after the Delaware River and Bay, which were named after Sir Thomas West, the Baron De La Warr. The Delaware state has a distinct history, as it was the first among the thirteen colonies, hence, its other name which it is known by, “The First State”. Delaware became a state on December 7, 1787.

Delaware became a center of trade and industry since the establishment of the famed Du Pont Corporation in 1802.
