1. The Freshwater Gallery - the focus is on, how freshwater habitats in South America compare to the river systems of New England, and features piranhas, Atlantic salmon, electric eels and anacondas.
2. The “Thinking” Gallery - this has rare sea dragons, coastal environments, the goliath grouper and thousands of schooling fish.
3. The “Edge of the Sea” tidepool - visitors can touch New England tidepool animals that include sea urchins, sea stars, hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs and snails.
4. The Tropical Gallery - you can find colorful tropical fish, venomous fish, cuttlefish and living corals here.
5. The Northern Waters of the World Gallery - it focuses on how the marine habitats of New England compares to that of the Pacific Northwest.
6. The Aquarium Medical Center - this gives a view of what is involved in taking care of numerous animals.

IMAX Theater at Boston Aquarium: The Matthew and Marcia Simons IMAX Theater opened at the New England Aquarium, Boston, in 2001. This IMAX Theater at Boston Aquarium is the only 3D theater, with a six story high flat screen, in Boston. Its purpose is to exhibit habitats and animals that are too large, too small or too endangered to be displayed at the aquarium. The screen is 65’ high and 85’ wide at the IMAX Theater at the Boston Aquarium. It has a slight curvature that extends to the edge of the viewer’s peripheral vision. These amazing IMAX films provide a realistic depiction of natural environments. The Theater at the Boston Aquarium is open daily at 9:30 a.m.
