Size of a Volleyball Court at the beach: Beach volleyball is played on a sand court that is formed either naturally or is created for the game. Volleyball beach courts are a little larger than the indoor volleyball courts. FIVB or the Federation Internationale de Volleyball has determined specific dimensions for a volleyball beach court in the year 2001. According to this board of administration, a volleyball doubles beach court should measure 16mx8m. Each half of the court should measure 8mx8m. According to the new rule, the free zone of a beach volleyball court should measure a minimum of 5m and a maximum of 6m. The size of the net should be 8.5m long. The posts must be fixed at an equal distance of 0.7m to 1m, from each sideline. Beach volleyball is a separate event in the Olympic games. Regulation Size of Volleyball Court: According to the FIVB, USAV and most volleyball boards of administration, the regulation size of a volleyball court is 9mx 18m. Volleyball is considered the ideal sport for the disabled. Disabled people, using the wheelchair, are known to rejuvenate their spirits by playing volleyball or ‘sitting’ volleyball, as it is sometimes referred to. The standard size of the wheelchair volleyball court should be 7mx12m. The net height for wheelchair volleyball should be 1.75m. The regulation size for a sitting volleyball court should be 6mx10m, with a net height of 1.5m for men and 1m for women.
Official Size of Volleyball Court: According to FIVB and USAV, the dimensions of the volleyball court should be 9mx18m. The height of the net for a regular volleyball court is 7’ 11 5/8” for men and 7’ 4 1/8” for women. According to the norms of the Volleyball court size, the official measurement of the height of the net is determined at the center. The height of the net at the sidelines should be ¾” higher than the official height. These measurements are made from the ground if the court is a grass one and from the sand raked level, if the court has a sandy surface.
Size of Volleyball Sand Court: Ideally, a volleyball sand court should be created in a way that the net runs from east to west, to avoid directly facing the morning and evening sun. It is illegal to take the sand from beaches to build a volleyball sand court. Washed masonry sand of a good quality is used for a volleyball sand court. Theoretically speaking, the depth of sand for a volleyball sand court should be minimum 30cm. However, the recommended sand depth is minimum 50cm. The boundary of the sand court should be 15mx24m. This creates a 3 meter long sand perimeter around the actual sand court.
The net is 10m wide and the poles should be fixed at a distance of 1m from the boundary of the volleyball sand court. The boundary line of a volleyball sand court should be made with a ¼ inch rope tied to the four corners of the court. 1 or 1.5 inch webbing can also be used as a boundary line, instead of a rope. Volleyball is a good team sport, played by people of all age groups.
