Used bicycle for sale: If you do not have any specific bicycle requirement like racing, touring or mountain biking and are looking for a bike for routine commuting, the best option is to invest in a used bicycle available. You could also buy branded used road bikes. They are lighter in weight, generally made from aluminum alloy and other advanced engineering material that is stronger than steel. The ability to resist corrosion is also much better.

Any used bike that you are planning to invest in should be from a bike shop because they usually tune and tidy up the bike, before they put it up for sale. Buying a bicycle from individuals may prove expensive, in case the bike requires some parts to be replaced before it is fit for regular use. However, for the do-it-yourself expert, buying a used bike put up for sale in a classified advertisement or a thrift store proves to be much cheaper. The Toronto police hold a monthly auction of unclaimed used bikes, where excellent bikes can be bought for less than half their market value.

Branded Used Road bicycle: When buying a branded used road bicycle put up for sale, you should check that the frame members are welded together and not just crimped. The bike should be at least a 10 speed bike. This would take care of the various riding conditions on the road, including hilly terrain. Many bikes have speed mechanisms on the crank as well as on the rear wheels. Three on the crank and four on the rear wheel would make it a twelve-speed (3x4) bike.

Check the brakes to see if both, the front and rear brakes are functioning properly because if there is just one functional brake, it suffers breakage on a downhill roll and the resulting accident may prove to be fatal. Brakes should also be designed well. Design wise, V brakes are the best, followed by the center-pull design. Make sure the front and rear reflectors are in place for safety during night riding.

Used recumbent bicycle: A recumbent bicycle is one that positions the rider in a reclining position while riding. The seat is constructed with a backrest, against which the rider leans back. The pedals are placed in a way that they are at nearly the same height as the seat, with the rider extending his legs to reach them. Both wheels are of different sizes, with the rear wheel being invariably smaller than the front one. Recumbent bicycles come with different steering geometry, such as Above the Seat Steering or ASS and Under the Seat Steering or USS. They have a longer wheelbase as compared to the normal upright bicycle. Tandem recumbent bicycles have more than one seat, similar to tandem upright bicycles.
