Polaroid LCD TV: In the LCD TV’s, the light is not created by the liquid crystals, but by the light source behind the panel. Behind the LCD, there is a white diffusion panel that redirects the light and scatters it, to form a uniform image. This display involves a liquid crystal solution in between two polarizing transparent panels. The front layer of the screen is etched on the inside surface of the grid. This forms a template for the layer of liquid crystals that bend and light in response to the electric current. The crystals line up to keep any light from passing through. Every crystal acts like a shutter, by either blocking the light or allowing it in. The dark crystals and transparent patterns form the image. This technology has been adopted for digital watches too, but in a more sophisticated way.
