St petersburg newspaper...
St. Petersburg Times newspaper: St. Petersburg Times began circulation as a country weekly newspaper in Dunedin, on July 25 1884. It was initially known as the West Hillsborough Times. A.C.Turner bought this newspaper in December 1884 and moved to Clearwater. The newspaper was renamed St. Petersburg Times in 1892, when R.J. Morgan bought it from Turner and moved it to St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg was then a fishing village, to the south of the peninsula. The paper was again sold to Ira J. Gore, who circulated this weekly until his death. A year later his son sold it to W.L. Straub.
St. Petersburg Times newspaper was turned into a semiweekly in 1907. In 1912, it was circulated for six days a week, published everyday, except Monday. The masthead of the newspaper had a drawing of the skyline of St. Petersburg. Straub envisioned that the masthead should be complete with hotel towers, city piers and high-rise buildings. Paul Pointer bought St. Petersburg Times newspaper in 1912. He was a publisher from Indiana and he bought the paper within 48 hours of his arrival to St. Petersburg. This paper began circulation seven days a week in 1942. The Time magazine named St. Petersburg Times one of the ten best newspapers, in America, in 1984.
