Pearl harbor...
Pearl Harbor - The Movie: In the movie "Pearl Harbor", the story revolves around just a few young kids who are in a love triangle and somehow get caught up in the middle of a Japanese attack on the Naval Base. The entire movie glorifies a few small actions of some of the people in the movie, without giving the real history behind the attack and leaving out many important facts. While this motion picture was made for today's Hollywood audience, the true story behind Pearl Harbor and the attack on December 7, 1941 was not told.
Pearl Harbor - A Surprise Attack: Pearl Harbor was built to be a safe haven for the Navy's top battleships. With docks available for over 15 of these monsterous ships, Pearl Harbor was the place for all the Navy's ships. But, on the morning of December 7, 1941, the Japanese took advantage of this harbor in Hawai'i and moved in to attack the ships docked there. Although there was a warning of the attack, it was not taken seriously and was all but ignored until the fighting and bombing began that Sunday morning. The young Navy officers awoke to planes screaming overhead, torpedoes falling, and Japanese airplanes bombing everything in Pearl Harbor and the nearby air base. The U.S. Navy personell that were stationed at Pearl Harbor did not have much time to react before the attack was completely underway and had destroyed most of the airplanes and had done major damage to the ships docked in the Harbor.
Pearl Harbor - The Bombing That Drug The U.S. To War: When the Japanese began the bombing and attack on Pearl Harbor, they caused the United States government to join World War II. The first battle was fought here, at Pearl Harbor, with young Navy men and women scrambling to get to cover or to their guns to join in the fight. Most of the ships docked at Pearl Harbor were seriously damaged and one, the U.S.S. Arizona, was completely sunk, with over 100 people on board. This horrible sneak attack upon the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor caused the United States to finally join in the war that had already been raging all through Europe and other parts of the world.
Pearl Harbor - A Picture Perfect Memorial: The memorial at Pearl Harbor is still open to the public. At the memorial, you will find many pictures of the attack, eye-witness accounts, and pieces of history. The U.S.S. Arizona is still underwater, and the main part of the memorial is built over the sunken ship, where the oil still bubbles to the water's surface. You can either take a tour of the memorial or you can wanter about on your own, taking in all the sights and smells of history, and learn many of the facts about the attack and bombing that happened that day. While there are very few Pearl Harbor survivors still alive today, a few still make it back to the attack site each year, offering their pictures, stories, and a piece of history to all those who come to visit the memorial.
