Detroit newspaper

The Detroit Newspaper : The Detroit Free Press The Detroit Free Press is the largest Detroit newspaper, but only by a bit. The only competitor to its place, and the close second vying for the title of the largest Detroit newspaper is the Detroit News. First published all the way back in 1831 as the Democratic Free Press and Michigan Intelligencer, the Detroit Free Press has become renown as the most liberal Detroit newspaper, and has come far since its first days in press over a 170 years ago. Since 1987 however, both the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit Newspaper agreed to operate jointly, while still maintaining their distinct identities and editorial staff. The publication of the joint weekend editions of the papers (called the Detroit News and Free Press), proved wildly successful, catapulting the Detroit Free Press which had the 10th largest circulation nationwide, to 4th for it's Sunday joint editions. Recently however, in 2006, the Detroit Free Press discontinued these joint editions and moved back to printing it's own, however a small technicality in the previous agreement allows the Detroit News to still publish it's own editorial in the Detroit Free Press weekend edition.
The Detroit Newspaper : The Detroit NewsThe Detroit News is not as old a Detroit newspaper as the Free Press, and, as a matter of fact, in 1873 when it first started it was renting out office premises from the Detroit Press. Still, from there on out and after buying the Detroit Tribune and the Detroit Journal, it's rise was astronomical, and it very quickly established itself as the Free Press' contender. Although recently the Detroit News has found itself lagging behind the Free Press in terms of Detroit newspaper circulation, it's foray into Internet news has been a remarkable success, and it's website is now the 10th most read newspaper website nationwide.
A Far Cry From a Detroit Newspaper: Looking at the Houghten Lake Resorter, MichiganFar away from the comparative glitz of the Detroit newspaper scene is the small county of Roscomm, and it's Houghton Lake. Houghton Lake also being home to the Houghten Lake Resorter that caters to this region. With a circulation of only about 12 to 20 thousand, it is hardly even in the same league as the Detroit News or Free Press, but it is still no slouch in terms of press. The Houghten Lake Resorter takes its responsibility as a newspaper to cover the area of its county seriously, and provides good quality reporting of local events and happenings. Also, it publishes four "Seasons" magazines that are distributed to most local businesses.
Other Notable Newspapers in Michigan May Not Rival a Detroit NewspaperThroughout Michigan there are many notable newspapers that while may not benefit from the thriving Detroit newspaper scene, still deserve credit for their shouldering of the responsibility of bringing the news into peoples homes. Most newspapers in Michigan appear to have roots stretching into the community of the area that they cover, and see the local news as their top priority as it will most benefit their readers. Of course this is not to say that nationwide or international news is ignored, in fact, quite the contrary, however local events still appear to be very much on the forefront of most of these newspapers.
