Mini English Bulldog: In order to improve the health and reduce the size of the full sized English Bulldog, the mini English Bulldogs were developed. There are many variations in the miniature features. They are very active, loving, loyal, obedient and protective companions. They stand 12-14” at the shoulders with the length varying from 17” to 24”. In the beginning, their primary function was to participate in the blood sport of bull baiting. Later, they were used to play with bears, other carnivores and lions. With the enactment of the anti-baiting laws, today, the Bulldog has become a family companion and show dog.
Mini Bulldog Breeders: Some of the recognized and accepted breeds of mini bulldogs are the Miniature Schnauzers, the Miniature Dachshunds, the Miniature Poodles, and the Miniature Bull Terriers. There are many types of genetics behind the breeding of the mini bulldogs but consistency appears to be the main issue. Even there are differences in the breed standards adopted by the breeders. The moderate sized, heavy and built low to the ground, the mini Bulldogs are bred to have the coat which is close, straight, short, glossy and smooth. Most of the bred bulldogs are born by Caesarean section because of their large heads. They have fine texture with no feathering, fringe or curl. Their characteristic features are strong, kind, amiable and courageous. They are dependable, gentle, and behave well in home with children. They thrive on human attention and have excellent guarding abilities. They need occasional brushing, bathing or dry shampooing. But they are prone to certain health problems such as breathing problems, low tolerance to anesthesia, poor eyesight, skin infections, hip and knee problems. The training for these bulldogs must not be harsh or heavy-handed methods. It should be firm and fair with consistency, praise and reward. Daily exercise is a must to keep them fit.
