Dog labrador...
Labrador retriever dog: The origin of Labrador
retriever dogs can be traced back to the late 1700’s, in Newfoundland. The
Greater Newfoundland and Lesser Newfoundland were the only two Labrador breeds
at that time. The Lesser Newfoundland was a black dog with a smooth coat. They
were constant companions of the fishermen and their children. The loyalty, hunting and retrieving
abilities of this breed resulted in their relocation to Great Britain. Labrador
breeders have created a breeding program especially for these dogs. In
1903, the Lesser Newfoundland was granted official registration at the EKC or
English Kennel Club. The American Kennel Club also registered them as ‘Labrador
retrievers’, a separate retriever breed in 1917.
Labradors possess the soundness of hunting dogs, the
quality and character of show dogs and the tractable temperament of the perfect
family companion. The breed flaunts coats of chocolate, black and
yellow. A well-bred Labrador retriever dog moves freely and effortlessly
and the ‘otter’ tail and friendly disposition appeals to most, making them the
most sought after pets. They make ideal companions for children, the elderly
and even the mentally and physically challenged.

features of labs. They sport friendly eyes and a placid temperament that makes
them ideal search and rescue dogs.
Yellow Labrador dog: A yellow Labrador dog may come in shades
of light cream and fox red, with slight shade variation on the under parts,
ears and back. There are two distinct yellow Labrador colors that have
different genetic combinations. A yellow Labrador with one or two genes that
encode for black, have a black pigment that varies in intensity. Similarly,
yellow Labrador dogs with two encoding genes of chocolate, have a
chocolate pigment that varies from a light flesh color on a light yellow
to a dark brown on a dark yellow. This breed is known to express a lot of
enthusiasm to learn.
Black Labrador dog: The black Labrador dog is
the dominant and well-known variety of the Labrador breed. According to the
records of the Labrador breed, black labs were the most preferred until quite
recently. They originated on the cold beaches of Newfoundland and were
companions of the local fishermen. Black Labrador dogs belong to
the Lesser Newfoundland breed, native to Newfoundland, Canada. They dragged and
retrieved the fishing nets for the fishermen on the shore. Their water
resistant coat helped the labs to perform well and repeatedly for their
masters. They are known to be intelligent and very enthusiastic learners and
basically these qualities have resulted in the demand for the breed.
