Cattle miniature...
Miniature cattle sales techniques: Miniature cattle are cattle measuring less than 42 inches at the hip, at three years of age. They could be the miniature form of standard breed, such as Hereford, Galloway or Highland or they could be a combination of two. The cattle miniature sales track is really good.
The popularity of miniature cattle is credited to:
- Significant reduction in the environmental impact on the cattle.
- Minimal handling.
- Finer meat, in comparison to the fully-grown cattle.
- Hardy and well adapted foraging in lifestyle units.
- Higher yield of milk and butterfat.
- Higher returns when sold.
- Excellent pets. They are cute, cuddly and can even be trained.
Miniature Hereford: It has been proved that the normal cattle, i.e. cattle with increased size and faster growth rate, have lower fertility rate and the yield of meat, kg per hectare grazed, keeps decreasing. In contrast, the small beef breeds of cattle miniature, like Hereford are known for efficient Pasteur conversion, better fertility and high yields of meat per hectare.
Over the years, a number of cattle miniature breeds have been introduced. However, one of the best is still the miniature Hereford. The breed is about 1.08 meters or 31/2 feet tall, with an average weight range of 300 to 350 kgs. The saleable meat proportion in the cattle miniature breeds is a good 60%.
The advantages of miniature Hereford is the smaller cuts of meat, higher stocking rate per acre, high feed conversion rates and reduced damage to pastures, especially on wet soil.
Miniature Longhorn: Longhorn miniatures are relatively new to the Texas ranch. The cattle miniatures called longhorns are credited with a very friendly disposition.
The Texas longhorn was added to the family of cattle miniatures after a lot of research. The history of the Texas miniature longhorn is very fascinating. It covers a survival from near extinction to distinction. The Texas longhorn is known for attractive features, especially the horns, which is the breed specialty. This breed stands a meter or about 40 inches near the shoulder of a mature bull.
Other miniature cattle breeds in and around Texas: In addition to the Hereford and Longhorn cattle miniature species, there are other miniature cattle species bred in and around Texas. One of the very accommodating cattle miniature species is the miniature zebu. It is found mainly in North America, however it flaunts an Asian origin. The breed is known to be gentle and intelligent. The breed is hardy and can be housed in the regular barns.
There is another very special cattle miniature breed known as Miniature jersey. They are originally from Europe and were imported to America. Since then they are known as American jersey. Texas is famous for its breeding grounds and ranches for miniature cattle. Another place where good cattle miniature breeds can be found are the ranches of the Scottish highlands.
