Powerstroke diesel...
The Ford Powerstroke Diesel: The Ford Powerstroke diesel is used to power Ford F-Series
trucks, the Ford Econoline Van and the Ford Excursion SUV. It incorporates
technology for a clean and quiet diesel engine. The F series Ford pickup trucks
are among of the most popular vehicles and account for about fifty percent of
the heavy-duty pickup truck segment.
Powerstroke Diesel Engine: The Powerstroke Diesel Engine belongs to a series of truck engines
manufactured Navistar International Corporation, International Truck and Engine
Corporation. The T444E was the first engine made by Navistar International
Corporation, which was branded by Ford as the Powerstroke engine.
The T444E was a V8, similar to the Cummins B series, with bore x stroke dimensions
of 104.3mm x 106.1mm. It delivered a power output of 275hp at 2800 rpm.
Torque was rated at 520 ft lbs, 705Nm, at 1600rpm.
Ford used this engine to power many of its vehicles from 1994 to 2003. The
engine was used in the Ford F Series trucks and the Ford Econoline vans from
1994 to 2003 and in the Ford Excursion SUVs from 2000 to 2003.
In 2004, Ford used another 6.0 liter Ford Powerstroke diesel engine
to replace the earlier version. Even though it was of a lesser cubic capacity,
it delivered more power than the 7.3 liter and had an intercooler.
The Ford Company plans to introduce another Powerstroke diesel of 6.4
liters capacity, a little over the current model displacing 6.0 liters. It is
set to be the cleanest and quietest diesel engine to date. The particulate
content in the exhaust emissions are expected to be in the range of
emissions of gasoline engines.
Powerstroke Diesel Performance: The
Powerstroke Diesel performance is good, provided the prescribed
schedules for the change of oil and filters and fine-tuning are strictly
adhered to. The engine has been designed to operate the fuel injectors through
a high-pressure oil pump. For injection at idle, the typical pressure
prescribed is 500 psi, at 3300 rpm, at neutral 1200 and at full load
acceleration it is required to be 3600 psi. This is possible with regular oil
change, with the prescribed grade of oil at predetermined intervals. It is
essential for the oil to contain anti-foaming agents to prevent it from
aerating.
For efficient performance and avoiding any problem of the powerstroke
diesel Ford recommends only one oil for the Powerstroke 7.3L, the Motor
craft Super-duty. It is multi-grade oil, with the required additives for engine
protection, as well as antifoaming agents. The viscosity of oil is greatly
dependent on the temperature and hence there are different grades of oil
recommended for operation under different climatic conditions. The recommended
grade for normal climates, is 15W40, for temperatures below 20 degrees is10W30
and for temperatures below -10 degrees, 5W-30 should be used.
Powerstroke Diesel forum: There
are countless online Powerstroke Diesel forums that offer the
opportunity to share ideas, discuss problems and exchange information and
research. There are forums devoted exclusively to the different models
of the Powerstroke diesel.
