Mitsubishi Montero Sport: The Mitsubishi Montero Sport is a midsize sports utility vehicle (SUV} manufactured by Mitsubishi motors. The new version of this vehicle maintained its presence in the American market from 1997 to 2004. Smaller than the regular Montero, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport is lighter, has a lower body and is shorter in length. In 1999, a luxury Limited model was included in the Mitsubishi Montero Sport range which, in 2000, was given a tailgate trim in black, and a new front side look. A five-seater, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2000 Limited was equipped with a three and half liter V6 engine, and was also given a modified console with larger cup-holders, two tone interior color schemes and a monochrome exterior. The other changes include the leaf springs being replaced by coil springs, sixteen-inch wheels, larger front brakes, and a change in the differential to the limited slip type. The 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport got a new four-wheel drive system called the All4-wheel, eliminating the need to disengage the four-wheel drive on dry pavements. This model reached end of production after 2004.
Mitsubishi Montero parts: Parts for the Mitsubishi Montero are available at numerous places as the SUV has been on the scene since 1982. Mitsubishi Montero parts are interchangeable with that of the Mitsubishi Pajero. They can also be ordered online from spare parts dealers that have lists of available parts. Although most parts are easily available, getting them for older models of the Montero may be a little difficult. However, abundant supplies of serviceable parts and assemblies for nearly all Mitsubishi Montero models are available with used parts suppliers. One has to just surf the Internet to locate such suppliers.
Mitsubishi Montero Accessories: Many dealers stock Mitsubishi Montero accessories. Mitsubishi Montero OEM accessories and parts can be ordered online from the Mitsubishi Montero official website. The site is operated and owned by an authorized Mitsubishi dealer, Walkers Renton Mitsubishi, and not by the Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. This site claims to sell everything below dealer wholesale prices, and it has pictures of the accessories along with the prices. There are bike racks, cargo mats, cargo organizers, grill guards, hood protectors, in dash six disc CD changers and many other items for the Montero. There is a ‘wrench system’ on the web page, which gives you practical tips from other Mitsubishi Montero owners, about how to fit parts and accessories.
Changes in the Mitsubishi Montero Models in 2000: Apart from the changes in the Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2000 mentioned earlier, the Mitsubishi Montero 2000 ES, which had a four cylinder engine earlier, was fitted with the larger V6. Moreover, it shed its manual transmission in favor of automatic transmission, which itself was upgraded with electronic shift control, which enables it to automatically adapt the shifting of the gear to the style of driving. The ignition key was integrated with an anti-theft engine immobilizer. The Mitsubishi Montero 2006 is the last Montero to be manufactured as the company has decided to discontinue production. This decision was made in view of the slackness in demand, which did not justify the redesigning expenses for continued production.
