The Volkswagen Golf is a small family car, which made its debut in 1974 in Europe, and a year later, came to the United States as Volkswagen Rabbit. Ten years later, it was renamed Golf in the US, but its name was again changed to Rabbit with the new line launched in 2006. it is sold as a two door or four door hatchback model which offers a lot of space. It is the best selling model in Volkswagen’s history, and world’s third-most best selling vehicle, with more than 24 million cars built by 2005. By 1960’s, the sales of Volkswagen Beetle had plummeted, and by 1970’s, the company was in financial trouble. Other cars like front engine, rear drive Toyota Corolla was attracting customers away from Volkswagen. Golf was built to revive the novelty of Volkswagen, which had started to wear thin.

Used Volkswagen Golf: Early Volkswagen Golf models were popular due to their solid, precise feel on the road and high-quality construction. Available as either a two-door or four-door hatchback, the Golf offered a lot of space for people and their things due to its efficient body style. There have also been several Golf variants. Beyond the basic but well-trimmed economy hatchback, VW offered both a convertible ("Cabriolet" and later "Cabrio") and a feisty, sport-tuned hatch that wore the GTI badge.

Most Golf’s produced through the '80s and till 1995, were powered by four-cylinder engines of either 1.8 or 2.0-liters displacement. Although respectable in terms of handling and performance, these Golf’s faced stiff competition with rivals from Japan, which were less exciting, but more reliable and durable. More recent years have seen the Volkswagen Golf improve its reliability without losing its unique and enjoyable German-engineered feel behind the wheel. Although the small cars from Asia still sport superior track records for reliability, the Golf still merits consideration from driving enthusiasts shopping for a small, space-efficient economy car on the used market.

Volkswagen Golf Parts: The new, 2007 rabbit comes with features like 18” Karthourn wheels, a fifth hatchback door, daytime running lights, which draw less power but increase door visibility, and anti-theft systems. The interiors sport 6 way adjustable seat, dual tone horn, power ports, CD stereo, airbags, power windows. On engineering front, it comes with a 5-speed manual, or 6-speed automatic transmission and a 2.5 L, 150 hp powerful engine. There are also various other optional accessory and body kits available, that your golf can be retrofitted with, to make it look trendy.

Volkswagen Golf Diesel: Though diesel cars are not very popular in the US, but almost half of the cars sold in Europe are diesel powered. Diesel engines have come a long way since the 70’s and the 80’s. the new Golf has a very good TDI engine, which is a turbo diesel engine. It had good torque, good mileage, and is clean and environmentally friendly. Also, unlike what many people think, these cars are almost as quite as their as their gasoline counterparts, and the Golf has very good sound insulation.
