The office of Texas Attorney General creates and maintains a widespread Colonia Geographic Database for the border region. It stores exact geographic and explanatory data on more than 1,800 colonia areas in twenty-nine border area counties. In addition to this, the database stores non-geographic information on colonias that are collected from several state and local entities. The main purposes of creating a database by the office of Attorney General, Texas are as follows:

- It develops an understanding of the extent of colonias in Texas.
- It encourages the scrutiny of social and economic conditions within the colonias.

Texas Attorney General, Greg Abbott: Greg Abbott, the Attorney General of Texas was born in Wichita Falls and raised in Duncanville. He completed his graduation from the University of Texas with a B.B.A. in Finance and then received a degree in law from Vanderbilt University. Greg Abbott, the 50th Attorney General of Texas has worked on this position since December 2, 2002. During his tenure as the Attorney General he set up the Cyber Crimes Unit that works against those Internet users who used to prey upon children. Over seventy-five criminals and three hundred sex offenders who violated their parole, have been arrested. Greg Abbott, the Attorney General of Texas collected over .5 billion in child support for children in Texas. In addition to this he has also developed programs in order to strengthen family bonds. Before joining as the Attorney General of Texas, he used to work as a Justice in the Texas Supreme Court and a State District Judge in Harris County. His career in public service started in 1992 in Houston. There he served as a reputed state trial judge in the 129th District Court. He has been awarded with numerous awards like “Jurist of the Year” from the Texas Review of Law & Politics; “Trial Judge of the Year” from the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists and “Appellate Judge of the Year” from the Texas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
