CDL Driver’s License: CDL stands for Commercial Driver’s License. Any person who drives vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 pounds or more is required to obtain a CDL license from the state. This also applies to any vehicle such as a passenger bus or school bus that is capable of transporting sixteen or more persons including the driver. A CDL License is also required to operate a placarded tank vehicle that transports inflammable or dangerous material. An individual must be at least 18 years of age to apply for a CDL license to drive within the state, and to drive across states the minimum age is 21 years. The following documents must be produced at the time of applying for the CDL:

- Social security number
- Current U.S. or foreign passport
- Document proving date of birth
- Proof of signature
- Proof of state citizenship.

Almost all states in the U.S., Florida, Georgia, Illinois, and Texas, follow these basic guidelines for CDL license.

CDL License Test: The CDL license test consists of two types of tests: written test and road test. While the written test is knowledge based, the road test ascertains the candidate’s driving skill. The CDL license test varies according to the kind of commercial vehicle one intends to drive, e.g. passenger transport or tank vehicles. The following types of written tests will be given for a CDL:

- General Knowledge Test: All CDL candidates must take this test.
- Air Brakes Test: For candidates driving vehicles with air brakes.
- Passenger Transport Test / P Test: Must be taken by bus drivers. An additional test is required for applicants driving school buses.
- Combination Vehicles Test: For candidates driving more than one kind of vehicle, e.g. a school bus and a tank.
- Tank Vehicle Test / N Test: For driving tanks with a capacity of more than 1000 gallons.
- Hazardous Materials Test/ H Test: For drivers transporting dangerous material by placarded vehicles.
- Doubles & Triples Test/ T Test: For applicants who pull double or triple trailers.

The skill test consists of three sub-sections:

- Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection Test: Applicants are required to inspect their vehicles and explain the safety measures that can be taken to drive safely.
- Basic Vehicle Control Test: Candidates are examined to see how skillfully they can drive their vehicle forward, backward, and turn within a certain defined area.
- On-Road Test: Applicants have to drive on the road in various traffic conditions.

The CDL will be given to candidates who successfully pass both the written and skill test for commercial driving. Applicants can practice the CDL license course material by enrolling in the CDL training class.

Georgia CDL License: Anyone driving commercial vehicles in Georgia is required to obtain the Georgia CDL license. Commercial driving may include transportation of 15 or more persons, transporting hazardous material and driving vehicles weighing 26,001 pounds or more. People aged between 18 and 21 can apply for a CDL that is restricted to the state of Georgia. Inter-state CDL license is permitted for those aged 21 and above. An applicant must read the ‘Commercial driver’s manual’, which is provided by the driver’s license office of Georgia for free, and fill up the application form. Only when a candidate clears the written exam and on-the-road test is he/she provided a Georgia CDL license. Candidates can take the written test at the driving license office, but the road test can only be given in Gainesville, Jackson, Milledgeville and Thomson. Georgia governs CDL rules under The Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986. This law states that inter-state commercial drivers must be physically fit to drive safely. Therefore, these drivers are required to submit medical certificates when applying for the CDL.

Florida CDL License: Florida requires documented information of the following for the CDL license:

- Social security number and two forms of identity proof.
- Medical examination report
- Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
- Candidates must have passed all the CDL tests.

Applicants must provide authentic information in order to obtain their Florida state CDL license. People are required to abide by the local state's laws governing the CDL so that their license is not revoked.
