Symptom thyroid

Symptom Thyroid: Two sides of the problem The producer of thyroxine and triiodothyronine hormones, thyroid is one of the large endocrine glands that stays responsible for the regulation of body’s metabolic rate and many other growth related functions. The thyroid also produces calcitonin, the hormone that controls calcium in the blood. But often it is noticed that the thyroid starts malfunctioning due to some reason or the other. This is where the problem starts, giving rise to the conditions the medical world terms as Hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. The symptoms are as follows:
·For Hyperthyroidism:Palpitations, heat intolerance, nervousness, sleeplessness, difficulty in breathing, irregular bowel movements, fatigue.
·For Hypothyroidism: Fatigue, weakness, weight gain, unhealthy hair and skin, cold intolerance, muscle cramps and aches, constipation, depression, memory loss and decreased libido.
Symptom Thyroid: The cause of the disease While hypothyroidism is often considered a result of past or continuing inflammation of the thyroid that damages a large number of the thyroid cells, thus bringing down its capacity of producing sufficient hormone, hyperthyroidism, on the other hand, is a condition caused by the effects of extra thyroid hormone on the body due to Graves Disease (the entire gland producing the extra hormone) or a hot nodule (single nodule producing the excess hormone). Symptom Thyroid:Cancer Termed as Thyroid cancer i.e. the cancer of the thyroid gland, the disease spans over four different forms, namely: papillary, follicular, medullary and anaplastic. Among these, papillary and follicular are the most common forms that are slow growing in nature, while the medullary and the anaplastic forms are fast-growing and often respond poorly to treatment. Far severe in its effects than a hypoactive or hyperactive thyroid, the most common symptom of thyroid cancer is a nodule in the thyroid region of the neck or an enlarged lymph node accompanied by pain, change in voice and similar symptoms an overactive or underactive thyroid gland would show.
Symptom Thyroid: Underactive: A phenomenon more common than an overactive thyroid, apart from the causes mentioned before, it can also appear as an aftermath of medical treatments that leave only a few numbers of thyroid producing cells left within the body that do not produce enough hormone to meet the needs of the body. A condition brought forth most often by thyroid cancer that requires surgical removal of the affected portion or a radioactive iodine therapy that kills a portion of the thyroid. Alternatively, insufficient TSH or Thyroid Stimulating Hormone can also trigger the condition due to a malfunctioning pituitary gland. Treatment usually involves the thyroid hormone pill Levothyroxine, a pure synthetic form of T4 or the thyroxine hormone. Other methods for treatment are with thioamide drugs, propylthiouracil, carbimazole and methimazole (in case of Graves' disease) and Lugol's solution.
