Lymph node pain

Lymph node pain in the neck: Lymph nodes, a vital part of the immune system is found in the neck, behind the ears, in the armpits, and in the groin region. When healthy, they are usually hard to feel, but an infection, a cut, scratch, tattoo, a drug reaction, or cancer may turn them bigger and become tender. This also includes the glands above the collarbone; termed medically as supraclavicular lymph nodes, they also become a subject to swellings (Lymphadenopathy) from infections and tumor in the thoracic or abdominal regions. But it’s actually the cervical lymph nodes situated in the neck area are the ones most susceptible to the swellings or lymphadenopathy. The lymph nodes can also become inflamed and enlarged on their own; it is a condition that’s called lymphadenitis. If not for any of the above reasons, it is due to cancer in the lymphatic system like Hodgkin's disease that give rise to swollen lymph nodes in the neck, causing intense lymph node pain in the neck region.
Lymph node pain in the underarm: As mentioned earlier, multiple reasons are responsible for the swelling of the lymph nodes in a location. Starting from injuries, or tumor developments in or near the lymph node, the biggest cause of the lymph node pain in the underarms is cancer. However, since lymph nodes comprise lymphocytes or white blood cells to fight and destroy foreign cells, a swelling may also be caused by their enlargement or swellings while fighting an infection. This is due to the production of additional white blood cells. The lymph nodes thus may feel tender or inflamed, turning even the lymphatic vessels into thin red lines running along a limb. Lymph node pain in the underarm may also be caused by swellings resulting from abscesses in the nodes.
Lymph node pain in the armpit: Lumps in the armpit or Axillary lymphadenopathy has a number of causes; from reasons as trifle as shaving to abscesses under the skin may cause lymph node pain in the armpit. It is also aggravated by bacterial infections that cause the lymph nodes to grow; the list continues to viral infections, vaccinations, and malignant breast cancer.
