Eczema symptom...
Eczema is a medical term for a group of conditions in which the skin becomes irritated or inflamed. There are several types of eczema, of which the most common one is atopic eczema. Eczema usually occurs in infants, and they outgrow it, though it is quite common in adults too.
Eczema symptoms in skin:
Among the symptoms of eczema that appear on the skin are:
- Itchiness
- Rash on the hands face, feet, or knees, and may also affect other parts of the body as well
- Very thickened, scaly or dry skin
- Skin might in the initial stages appear reddish and later turns brown
- Eczema can also affect pigmentation of the skin
- Babies can also get small blisters that ooze fluids and patches all over their scalp face and other areas
Since eczema is a skin disease, all the symptoms appear on the skin.
Eczema symptom treatment: Refer to a dermatologist immediately if you find that you have any of the syptoms of eczema. The treatment for eczema symptoms can be undertaken even at home, by following these steps:
- Use moisturizers that hydrate the skin, for example, emollients. They can be used everyday, even after the symptoms disappear. Aqueous cream and E45 cream are some emollients that can be tried. You can apply them directly on your skin. It is recommended to apply a moisturizer after a bath, when the skin is still a little moist.
- Mild steroid creams like hydrocortisone can be used, which soothe flare-ups of eczema. Always seek the advice of a pharmacist or your GP prior to applying any steroid cream.
- Stronger steroid creams like betamethasone. Apply them sparingly as they can have side-effects
- Oral steroids like prednisolone are available in the form of tablets and are used to treat severe eczema.
- Topical immunosuppressants are creams or lotions that are applied directly on the skin to decrease inflammation. These are new treatments and do not contain steroids. However, any long-term side effects have not been evaluated yet.
- Antibiotics, such as flucloxacillin or erythromycin may also be prescribed.
Eczema disease symptoms:
Eczema conditions and symptoms: Eczema conditions and symptoms are chronic and often relapse, which means that it lasts for a long time, but attacks occur depending on various stressors. Statistics show that more than 15 million people in the U.S. have conditions and symptoms of atopic eczema. Educating patients on skin care can go a long way in relieving eczema conditions and symptoms. Proper care can even reduce the need for medication. For most children, the conditions improve, as they grow older. Eczema is not contagious, however, so you don’t have to worry about others getting it from you.
