The One and Only Milwaukee Zoo: The Milwaukee County ZooThe Milwaukee County Zoo has come a long way to be the one and only Milwaukee Zoo, and it's reputation is well deserved. From it's humble beginnings in 1892 as a simple mammal and bird display in the downtown Washington Park of Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Zoo soon expanded and by 1902 it occupied over 23 acres of land. In 1934, the Milwaukee Zoo became part of the Milwaukee County Park Commission, and thus the Milwaukee County Zoo was officially born. Since then, it has never looked back, and has continued to grow and prosper until this very day. That very growth was vastly aided by its relocation to its present location where it has over 200 acres of land to house its ever growing collection of animals. It is no surprise that it is considered to be one of the finest zoos in the nation.

The Milwaukee Zoo: A Place For the Public To Be Educated and EntertainedWhile the Milwaukee Zoo is renown for its various entertaining activities, what is less known is that the Milwaukee Zoo strives to be a place where the public can be educated in all areas of wildlife. Thus all its entertaining presentations often have an educational aspect. The prime example of the Milwaukee Zoo and it's effort to educate the public is the "Animals in Action" talks that are held. In this, the zookeepers and Zoo Pride volunteers give presentations of various animals that are in the zoo. These presentations are both entertaining and informative, and can teach both children and adults many things about wildlife. A particular favorite of these "Animal in Action" talks among children is the sea lion show.

A Big Picture of the Animals at the Milwaukee ZooEducation aside, no zoo would be complete without a diverse enough variety of animals that can keep its public interested, and in this area, the Milwaukee Zoo certainly does not disappoint. If one were to try to take a picture of the animals, each and every one, in the Milwaukee Zoo, one would certainly have to bring a lot of film. The fact is that with over 350 species of animals, there are simply too many to easily envision! The Milwaukee Zoo boasts everything that can be asked, and even has some less seen animals, like the snow leopard, two-toed sloth, vampire bat, bactrian camel, king penguin, chinese alligator, pacific giant octopus, and the leopard shark. Certainly this wide variety has helped the Milwaukee Zoo attract even more people to its gates and it's still growing.

The Milwaukee Zoo, WI and it's Responsibility Towards Animal ConservationWhile the greatest way to aid the efforts of animal conservation is education, something the Milwaukee Zoo, WI, prides itself in, it also recognizes it's responsibility in other areas of conservation. Thus the Milwaukee Zoo works closely with the Milwaukee Zoologist Society, and the partnership has benefited them both. The Zoologist Society often helps the Milwaukee Zoo, WI, in matters of funding and rendering aid in the zoos many conservation projects.
