London palladium...
London Palladium and its history: The London Palladium is one the most popular theatres in London’s West End. The edifice that stands today was actually home to the Hengler’s Circus way back in the 1880s. The new structure was rebuilt in 1910. The name was changed from The Palladium to the more familiar present name of The London Palladium in 1934. The London Palladium gained in popularity during the mid 1950s due to the television variety show Sunday Night at The London Palladium that was aired on a weekly basis. The same format was renewed in the late 1980s with the show Live From The Palladium. The theatre has been mostly used for holding concerts and the best among all such programs that had been held in the Palladium had been the Liza Minnelli and Judy Garland concert in the 1960s that had also been aired on television. There have been many American stars who have studded the history of the London Palladium in the years 1950s and the 1960s. They are Danny Kaye, Bob Hope, Ethel Merman, Frank Sinatra, Liberace and many others. There was also a group of comedians who have made the theatre proud and they were known as the Crazy Gang who had occupied the theatre from 1931 to 1939. In the 1980s the theatre witnessed huge musical extravaganzas and wonderful stars with memorable performances.
Ticket system: There are many of the tickets that are sold at half the prices but only on the day of the show. Even the tickets that are exorbitantly priced are sold at lower costs. One can buy the tickets with debit cards, cash, credit cards but they do not accept travelers or any other type of cheque. Tickets are sold from the top of the pile arbitrarily and one cannot choose the seats. The seats are usually in the orchestra stalls, as these are not sold by the box office. These seats are therefore in the front seats or even at the back of the area in which the stalls are there.
Box Office: The box office sold those tickets the seats of which were in the prime locations. These were the ones that gave the best view of the stage and the seats were placed in the most strategic of positions. Connoisseurs choose to buy the tickets in advance and they do so from the box office. There are no discounts on these tickets.
Frank Sinatra: Frank Sinatra is closely associated with the London Palladium and there is a special program, a theatrical performance that celebrates the life and the career of Frank Sinatra. He was a very highly acclaimed and popular actor and vocalist who were all the more famous for his perfection in timing and also phrasing. Critics place him at par with the other maestros like Elvis Presley and Bing Crosby. Classic Pop would best describe Sinatra’s style and the performances that had made him so very famous were the songs like “Fly me to the Moon”, “Night and Day”, “Angel Eyes” and many more.
