Loews Movie Theater at a glance: Marcus Loew founded the Loews Movie Theater, one of the oldest chains of theaters in North America, in 1904. It was popular as the distribution wing and parent company of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer or MGM. It ceased to be so when the U.S. Supreme Court forced the affiliation apart in 1954. Cineplex Odeon Corporation merged with Loews Theaters to form Loews Cineplex Entertainment, in 1998. The theaters were located in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Korea and Spain. The Loews movie theater turned out to be one of the largest movie exhibitors in the world. Later, Onex Corporation and Oak tree Capital Management took over Loews Cineplex in 2002. They operated 198 theaters with 2,235 screens when the AMC- Loews Cineplex merger was announced in 2005. Finally, Loews Cineplex Entertainment merged with AMC Theaters in 2006. Loews Movie Theater’s headquarters is in Kansas City and operates more than 5,600 screens, in twenty- nine states and eleven countries outside the United States.

Earlier, Sony Pictures Entertainment had conceptualized plan for a nine-screen movie theater, with no inner lobby or unusual interiors and an external box office.
