Russia’s Bilan performs in Eurovision Song Contest 2006: Representing Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 was Dima Bilan with his song Never Let You Go. The song was written by Karen Kavaleryand and Irina Antonyan and composed by Alexandr Lunyov. He won second place for his song, which is also Russia’s best result so far.
Dima Bilan’s original name is Viktor Belan. He was born on 24th December 1981 in Karachay-Cherkessia and is a graduate from Gnesinyh musical college. He graduated from college as a classical vocal performer.
He gave his debut performance in 2002 when he stood 4th place inthe Russian/Latvian festival "New Wave”. He released "Nochnoy Huligan," his debut album in 003, which included covers of "Caruso" by Lucio Dalla and "Fever" by Elvis. His successful single "Na beregu neba," was released in 2004 and was also the title of his second album. Dima Bilan had endeavored to reach the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 through the song Not That Simple but he finished at 2nd place in the Russian national selection. Russia’s broadcaster is channel 1.
Russia’s song in the Eurovision Song Contest came close to winning: This year, Russia came few points close to winning the Eurovision, with Dima Bilan coming second at 248 points. 35 countries voted for runner-up Russia, which was more than winner Finland, who received votes from 34 countries. Russia is among those countries have never come last in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Russia entered the Eurovision in 1994, when it became a member of the European Broadcasting Union. Russia has consistently participated in the Eurovision Song Contest, as many as ten times. Russia's performance was applaudible in 2003, with the ever popular group T.A.T.U representing the country. Arguably, their best performance has been in the year 2000 and 2006, when they stood second in the Eurovision Song Contest. Alsou did it in 2000 and Dima Bilan in 2006.

Eurovision Contest, Russia: The Eurovision Contest in Russia is an international song competition, is held every year to promote healthy interaction and friendship between member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
Each country performs one song on live television, and the winner is decided on the basis of votes cast by the viewers of the member countries. A television broadcaster represents each country from his or her country. At the end of all the performances, countries are allowed to vote for any country but their own and the winner is the country with the most votes. There is no monetary award for the winner, but the winning country hosts the event for the next year. A trophy is awarded to the winning songwriters though.
