Entertainment Tonight, a daily TV news show: Entertainment Tonight is a daily entertainment television news show. It is a syndicate venture by CBS Paramount Domestic Television, throughout Canada and the United States and on the Nine Network in Australia. Entertainment Tonight is the longest running and most popular news program. Its first broadcast was aired on 14 September 1981. It was also the first syndicate venture that was distributed via satellite.
The original producer of Entertainment Tonight, Andy Friendly, designed the unique look, reporting style and background score of the TV show. His staff included former rock roadies and veteran Veitnam War TV reporters. Some of the staff has been working on the show for more than twenty years. Entertainment Tonight’ is a one-hour entertainment news program that also includes the spin-off, The Insider.
Entertainment Tonight Canada: This is a Canadian entertainment newsmagazine series. It was launched on 12 September 2005. Entertainment Tonight Canada is designed along the lines of the American series of Entertainment Tonight. It is aired on weeknights, on most of the Global stations at 7 p.m. This is followed by the American version. The well-known Global Ontario entertainment reporter, Cheryl Hickey, hosts Entertainment Tonight Canada. The other reporters include Roz Weston, Rosey Edeh, Kim D’Eon, Rick Campanelli, Erin Cebula, Olivia Cheng and Natasha Gargiulo. Entertainment Tonight Canada claimed to be the most watched entertainment news program in Canada, after airing its 100th episode.
ET Online: ‘Entertainment Tonight’ is available in other countries as well. Entertainment Tonight UK was launched in January 2005 on the satellite pay TV channel, Sky One. Sky One also airs the US episode daily. Australia’s Nine Network produced ET in the 1990’s. It was a mix of the local stories and those imported from the main American program. ‘Entertainment Tonight’ also enjoys a partnership with Yahoo and it was launched on Yahoo Entertainment. It gave the Yahoo and ET viewers a chance to enjoy an exclusive cross-platform entertainment experience. ET reports on breaking news events, behind the scenes first shots, exclusive interviews and Hollywood’s hottest controversies, from the world of fashion and interactive media to films, television and literature. It is now on MTV and VH1, daily. ET is also available online and the website provides news links, information on celebrities, movies, television news, fashion and music. Entertainment Tonight, the news show: Entertainment Tonight is probably the oldest entertainment news show. Each episode of this show gives the viewers an in-depth account of the happenings on television, music and films, including interviews with the stars from the industry. Over the years, the hosts and correspondents of ET have been successful in getting a number of celebrities to break their silence on tragedies or scandals. The legendary gossip columnist Army Archerd hosted the pilot for ‘Entertainment Tonight’. The other correspondents and hosts over the years have included Jeanne Wolf, Steve Edwards, Rona Barrett, Pat O’Brien and John Tesh. Mark Steines and Mary Hart currently host Entertainment Tonight with several other correspondents.
Mary Hart began her career with Entertainment Tonight as a correspondent in 1982 and was made a co-host within weeks. She renewed her contract with ET on October 9, 2006. Entertainment Tonight’s executive producers are Jim Bellows and Linda Bell Blue. The show remains one of the Top 10 highly rated programs.
