Edwards theater...
Edwards Theater, California:James Edwards the Second had retired to the place called Newport Beach in California way back in the 1960s. it was he who built an entire chain of theatres around Los Angeles in the beginning of the 1930s. Edwards retired in the year 1963 and it was then that he opened the Edwards Cinema. This was the first movie theatre in the empire that he built. He also managed to convince all his distributors that the developing Orange country should be able to compete with the city of Los Angeles and give it a run for the classy movie halls there. The Orange Country Register shows that there is record that says that Edward had given ,000 as guarantee to MGM in order to screen the first film that was “Dr. Zhivago”. There were other theatres like the General Cinemas, Mann Theater, and also the United Artists that often tried to encroach up on the monopoly that was established by Edwards. Edwards took various steps to always stay one step ahead of them and he even went to the extent of buying their sites if and when they decided not to stay in the business any longer.
The movie house: The movie house first started off with a classic by the name of Dr. Zhivago. It is now closed but it was quite a popular one during the prevalent times. It had a single screen and the number of seats that were there in the theatre was unknown. The owner of the theatre chain Edwards was a modest man who said that he was in the pop corn business rather than the movies. He lived till the ripe old age of 90 years. According to the famous Box Office magazine the theatre would have managed to reach the pinnacle of its success in the year 2000 had it managed to survive. It would make the eleventh largest movie chain in the whole of the United States. The main Edwards theatre had closed down due to bankruptcy and another very important reason was that the single screen theatre had become much outdated. The theatres that remain till today belong to the Regal Entertainment Group. The building has also been renovated and it now holds the Paul Mitchell cosmetology academy.
Edwards’s theatre at Houston: This theatre was opened in the year 1999. It has got state of the art luxuries and the screen stretches from wall to wall. There are two dozen screens that are well equipped with the digital DTS and also the SRD sound. The stadium has wonderful and comfortable seating arrangements that are high backed. The lobby has a two storey mega plex that has been well decorated with granite and marble alit with the cozy neon lights and the escalators that they take the spectators to and fro. The theatre at Houston aims to provide the best movie experience to all those who come here.
