The operator used to digitize the pattern into the computer with the help of similar techniques used in punching. Then the machine would stitch out the digitized design.

- Rayon thread: Rayon thread is considered to be the most popular threads as it is has an attractive high glaze, and provides consistent and trouble free performance. It doesn’t break or fray in the middle of high speed stitching, and it is also available in a wide variety of colors.
- Polyester embroidery thread: It is one of the most economical threads used for embroidery. It is available in a number of colors and provides an effect that is similar to rayon. Though rayon thread has a higher glaze as compared to polyester thread, both are interchangeable and perform in a similar manner when used with high speed stitching.
- Cotton embroidery thread: Cotton embroidery thread is usually not preferred for automatic embroidery machines. But, it performs very well and creates a lovely soft sheen.
- Silk thread: Compared to other fibers, silk tends to absorb dyes brilliantly, and is considered to be the leader in specialty threads. It has the strength of polyester and the stability of cotton, and hence sews smoothly without breaking in the middle of high speed stitching.
