HOPE scholarships, Georgia: HOPE or Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally rewards academically deserving students with financial assistance. It is available for programs at certain Georgia colleges, both public and private, public technical colleges, and universities. These scholarships are available for degree, diploma, and certificate programs. Since its inception in 1993, the HOPE scholarship, Georgia Program has helped more than 900,000 students, and awarded more than billion in funds to students at Georgia's colleges, technical institutions and universities. To be eligible, a student must have a high grade point average, in the range of 3.0 to 3.2 on a 4.0 scale or, in numeric terms, an 80 or 85 numeric average. The Georgia requirement for students beyond high school graduation is any degree credit that was attempted since the student's high school graduation. This will be used to decide eligibility for colleges in Georgia. There is also a separate program called the HOPE Grant, apart from the HOPE scholarships, Georgia, which usually provides full tuition expenses, approved set of mandatory fees, and 0 per academic year as a book allowance. There is no specific requirement of academic grades for the grant, especially for non-degree programs. There is also the HOPE Teacher Scholarship program, which provides loans to pursue advanced education degrees in fields of study identified as critical shortage areas. Repayment is through teaching in a Georgia public school after acquiring the degree. In addition, all endowments under these grants are eligible for tax credit, both normal and lifetime credit.

HOPE Scholarships, Tennessee: HOPE Scholarships, Tennessee, otherwise known as The Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship program, was instituted in 2004. The program has already helped many students from Memphis city schools. It finances students to attend a four-year university course, a two-year community program or a technical college. The HOPE Scholarships, Tennessee program, now known as the Tennessee Scholar Dollars, offers many kinds of grants and awards. Students, who do not qualify for the grant, can be eligible for the HOPE Access Grant, a one-time endowment, or the Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grant, which provides up to 50 for a program at any Tennessee Technology Center. While eligibility requirements are different for the various awards, however, all applicants have to be Tennessee residents for at least one year leading up to May of that year.

How to Apply: The first step in the application process for any of the awards is, filling out the FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. FAFSA is a tool used to figure out a student’s eligibility for all of the available scholarships and grants. Often, the filling out process shows whether the student qualifies for other federal and state financial aid schemes. These forms are available at high school counseling offices at city schools, all eligible public and private colleges, universities, and technical colleges. It takes about four to six weeks to process a paper application. A faster way is to apply online, because these are usually processed within a week or so. Many other states also have the HOPE scholarship program, for example South Carolina, where it is awarded during the freshman year only.

Hope Scholarship Lottery: The Hope Scholarship lottery is part of the relevant state lottery for education program. Since The Hope Scholarship lottery funds are limited, early submission of forms is important. Later grants may be reduced as the lottery money is paid out.
