Al-Ahram newspaper, Egypt: Al-Ahram is an Egyptian newspaper covering general news items. This second oldest daily newspaper in the Arab world was founded in the year 1875. It comes after Al-Waqae’a Al-Masreya that was founded in 1828. Al-Ahram is owned by the Al Ahram Foundation and is published in Cairo. The Egyptian Ministry of Information controls the content of this newspaper, but despite of the control, the opinion section of Al-Ahram is well regarded. There are two foreign language versions of this newspaper - the French version Al-Ahram Hebdo and the English version Al-Ahram Weekly that was founded in 1991. Initially Al-Ahram was published as a weekly newspaper every Saturday. Saleem Teqla and Bshara, two Syrian brothers, who were living at that time in Alexandria, Egypt founded Al-Ahram newspaper. It was distributed in Egypt and Syria. After two months the Teqla brothers took the decision to convert Al-Ahram into a daily newspaper. In November 1899, its headquarters was moved to Cairo. Religious scholars like Jamal al-Din al-Afghani and Muhammad Abduh wrote for Al-Ahram newspaper in Egypt.

Al Akhbar newspaper in Egypt: There are overall 18 primary newspapers and periodicals in Egypt and Al Akhbar newspaper is one among them. A controlling stock in this major daily newspaper is owned by the government of Egypt, along with Al-Ahram and Al-Gumhuriya. The president handles the appointment of editors for these dailies and as appointees the editors enjoy very little censorship by the government. Since the editors are appointed and work in a state owned newspaper, their loyalty remains within the state. Al Akhbar is a daily newspaper in Egypt. Media that is party owned stands as the only true competitor. There are fourteen Egyptian political parties that can publish their own newspaper. The government provides them a small subsidy and sometimes foreign interests as well.
