The Thomson newspaper chain formerly owned the Connecticut Post newspaper, and when this company sold off its holdings, Media News Group bought the Post. The coverage area of the Post presents problems as Bridgeport, the largest city of Connecticut, is a poor and minority area, while western New Haven County and eastern Fairfield County are very affluent. Consequently, while the Post provides good coverage of Bridgeport, most of the newspaper is composed of local stories related to the surrounding towns. The Connecticut Post newspaper was formerly the morning Bridgeport Telegram and evening Bridgeport Post, before being consolidated into a single morning publication.
