Field museum

Chicago: Chicago is the third most populous city in the United States of America and the largest in the state of Illinois. Known as the alpha World City, it is the financial, business and cultural capital of the Midwest. There are forty museums open to the public in Chicago out of which a few are mentioned here. The Museum Campus (3 museums linked together), Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum, Field Museum, John G. Shedd Aquarium, Chicago Children's Museum, Chicago Historical Society, DuSable Museum of African-American History, Ernest Hemingway Birthplace and Museum, Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center, Kohl Children's Museum, Museum of Broadcast Communications etc.
History: The Field museum is one of the oldest museums in Chicago from 1893.It was originally named as the ‘Columbian Museum of Chicago’ but renamed after Marshall Field, who donated a huge amount which was needed by the museum. The museum was originally housed in the "Palace of Fine Arts"; the structure now occupied by the Museum of Science and Industry. Between the 1950 and 1960’s it was known as the Chicago Natural History Museum but later the name Field museum was restored. The museum is organized into four departments Anthropology, Zoology, Botany and Geology. Some of the prized exhibits of the field museum of natural history include Sue, the largest and complete T-rex, comprehensive set of human cultural anthropology exhibits, large and diverse taxidermy collection, large collection of dinosaurs in the Evolving Planet exhibit, large collection of Native American artifacts.
Field Museum of Natural History: The museum has a number of exhibits both permanent and temporary. With regard to the permanent exhibits there are a number of animal specimens on display like Nature Walk, Mammals of Asia, Africa and several other. There is the Grainger hall of Gems that has a large number of diamonds and gems. The next is an Underground adventures that shrink the visitors to a size of penny to help see what insects and soil feel like at that size. The next one helps in understanding the way of Egyptian lives and a glimpse of interactive pictures for both children and adults and many more. Also is an exhibition to show visitor’s how volcanoes are born and their destructive powers, with display of casts of real people, artifacts from the eruption of Chicago-Pompeii.
There are temporary exhibits as well on display for a period of six to twelve months that vary in subject matter. Some of them that were on display like "Trash to Treasure: Salvage Archaeology in the Field Museum's Backyard", "Insects: 105 Years of Collecting" and "Gregor Mendel: Planting the Seeds of Genetics". In March there an upcoming Field Museum exhibit revealing King Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs.
